Mines Trains and Caves, Oh My
Hiked the train tracks for 5 hours and got some nice juicy blisters for this.

Looks like we need to bring a boat for that one... I'm in!
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Yeah a friend was supposed to take me here in his boat like 2 years ago... it never happened so I just hiked out there. The flooded section isn't that large either.Nicotti wrote:Looks like we need to bring a boat for that one... I'm in!

Any guesses on the "why" of those big blocks of stone? They appear to be painstakingly dressed to be perfect cubes or rectangular solids and possibly not worked on in the mine itself.
That submerged crane is interesting.
Great photos - Thanks!

Nice! I'd say those blisters are worth it!
I agree, that submerged crane is interesting - I wonder what happened...

Re: Mines Trains and Caves, Oh My
I've since made a return trip to both mines. The first one at Rush Island only went back a few hundred feet with nothing too interesting.
The second mine near Brickeys Road was 80% flooded but the tunnel in this picture below might possibly go somewhere. There are three of these (flooded) low-ceilinged tunnels and I couldn't see an end to any of them. I wish I would have explored it when I had the chance on my first trip when it wasn't flooded. Unfortunately I pussied out because right after I took this pic I heard a loud and distinct voice/ whisper and I was the only person there.
If you go to the second mine I suggest cutting through the quarry on Brickeys Road during non-business hours. That's what I did when leaving and a contractor picked us up in his truck and gave us a ride back to our car. On the way out I noticed other underground mines in the quarry itself to possibly check out!
Pic mentioned above from first trip:

HOLY SHIT!
I've been looking for that place for months. That's the old Rush Tower Mine that Georgia Marble operated back in the 70s. My MRDS placemark was off by several miles.

Anyone hit this recently? Is it still accessible?
