Recent Visit to the Water Street / Jordan Creek Tunnels
I'm pretty set on keeping this section of the forum alive, I recently went to what I believe is referred to as the Water Street / JC tunnels and took a video. We didn't get very far before running into a small homeless camp containing a few tents. I learned a good piece of advice from a fellow explorer "You are in their space, not the other way around." We left pretty quick

so is that your video?
you know I've never thought about it, but I wonder what year those tunnels were constructed. and how far you are underground.

Yes it is, I think I did ok for my first time using premier, but i can definitely see where improvements could be made. We went in from the hotel of terror entrance and that's the big room right after the brick arch if you've ever been down there, I'm awful at judging distance but couldn't be more than a few hundred feet max. I've been down there 3 times and we have yet to make it past that room for one reason or another

Not terribly far underground. They used to do a tour of them with a guide who explained the history, etc. I'm surprised anyone was in there with he amount of rain we have had recently. Hell's Kitchen, the foundation of one of Audio building would stay dry, but you would stand the chance of being stuck up in there until the water went down. There's a video on here somewhere of people rafting through the tunnel.

It really wasn't that bad in terms of how much water, most of it was snow still and hadn't melted

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Good ole Springfield and their liberal use of GIS. One can trace the route of the Jordan creek tunnel with the Stream Buffers GIS.
The creek was boxed in during the early 1930's.
The watershed committee gives the tours. Looks like you have to schedule one with them, there isn't any on the calendar.

I suppose you could think that. Or you could think that you'll resurrect it's lifeless corpse and bring Springfield Urbex back to it's former glory...Smokehouse wrote:Damn I really missed the prime of Springfield's urban exploring didn't I?
