**UPDATE**

Drove by there yesterday, not much is left. Just the length of section at the intersection of grand and choteau, and the smokestack is about 15 feet tall.

Yeah. Progress.

They are probably not going to use the lot where the buildings are/were anymore.

Rage levels are at maximum capacity. They demolished it because that was the "only suitable location" and now they're like, oh wait! That vacant lot that's been right next to it the whole time might work.

Fuck SLU and FUCK BIONDI!

You aren't the only one who feels that way.

"It was reported by Michael Calhoun of KMOX that Fr. Biondi stated if Pevely demolition were denied, SLU medical school would be shut down and moved to St. Louis County, claiming that the university had been offered land near Maryville University. When Calhoun followed up, asking for more detail after the decision, Biondi flatly stated, "Well, this is now approved so that point is moot."

Biondi is the king of all ass clowns. Fuck him! It even mentions they pulled this shit before when they had a historic mansion torn down so they could build a new SLU Law facility and then never built it.

Bastards.

Hooray for renewing old threads!

SLU's permit for demolition of the Pevely Complex expires this month. The SLU administration, which apparently had no set plans to begin with, STILL has no idea what they really want to do with the land.

A more in-depth article with lots o' pics: http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyr ... ndmark.php

And despite having no funding for redevelopment or building projects currently, SLU's appetite for destruction seems pretty insatiable. http://preservationresearch.com/2013/02 ... -building/

An interesting side note - this is not the first time that SLU has participated in large scale demolition of city infrastructure: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 220&type=1

Also - some pics I took from across the street during the demolition. The speed with which these guys dismantled the smokestack was pretty horrifically stunning.

NOT to be an apologist for my old collitch - but SLU had no part in the razing of Mill Creek.
This was razed when I was a freshman there and Laclede Town was eventually built in its place; SLU had no buildings in that land until long after Laclede Town vanished.
Eventually Laclede Town failed, which was a shame; it had quite an eclectic collection of people for its early years.
Mill Creek was a true slum - as bad as anything in New York or Chicago at the time. There were very few - if any - significant buildings in it - just tenements from the later 19th Century.

Whoops, should have done more homework on it before posting. I'm a current grad student at SLU, and I'm not trying to bring down the University - just questioning the judgement of some of the current administration.

Here's an interesting point of view on the Mill Creek Demolition - http://www.builtstlouis.net/2008/01/hea ... where.html.

I walked past it the other day. It looked like the door facing Grand was unlocked, but I couldn't test it, some people waiting for the bus were eyeballing me. :x

Yes. Or darn near. A week ago only half the building on the corner was still standing.
