Northwest Plaza
If someone else already did this, I'm sorry, I didn't see it when I did a search. I figured I should contribute what I have taken since I am looking at everyone else's wonderful pics!
There are only a few stores left at this mall in St. Ann (near Lambert). I have been coming here all of my life. It's so sad to see it go. Most of these pictures were taken on a Saturday, when the halls used to be full of people and you couldn't find a parking spot anywhere...
I didn't trespass or anything to take these. You can still walk in. It probably won't be that way for long after Sears closes in less than a month. I would really love to get back into the arcade that they have closed off...
Macy's is no longer there
My crappy car in the crappy parking lot
More empty parking lots
A game of white-out! Food court and Macy's are gone
Macy's
The overgrown "food court" area and old restaurant I can't remember the name of.
This whole area used to be open down here.
Overgrown Stairs
The only way to see the old arcade area
old bar and grill
Closed off entrance.
Shut down theater
They put up that wall to block off the arcade
escalator to oblivion
This place used to be wall to wall with tables full of people!
"following my taste buds...."
Damnit!! That was mean! Some KFC sounded awesome!
Roaming up the empty halls
The sign says it all...
Needless to say I "entered" anyway. Nothing to see there... Just the closed off entrance
I found this sign to be hilarious!!
How long has it been since they have updated this thing?
Darkness
Santa?
My attempt at an illusion shot
Inside sears
Macy's
Check out this flash trick! This was taken without the flash (at Macy's):
Look what happened when the flash was turned on!

Re: Northwest Plaza
Wow that's awesome!! I would have totally jumped the barrier at the escalators and checked out the theater.
Great pics! and not a single by-standard in your shots on a sat. Perfect place to explore.

RE: Northwest Plaza
I definitely plan to jump the barrier, but the problem is that this is also a police substation, and security guards walk around like it's still a thug-infested mall, and I already had car trouble when I was outside so they came to see if I was ok and saw me with my camera so they watched me. I live nearby, though, so there will be other chances. This is the beginning of a slow death for this mall I think...
There weren't any people walking around except for the guards and a woman who chose the empty halls as a jogging route. Pretty creative of her I guess.
I will keep this updated as it sinks further into oblivion.
Also thanks for adding the Wiki page!

RE: Northwest Plaza
Wow nice pics, sad to see this place has gone to shit... I remember going there all the time as a kid when I lived in St. John, and I would go to center court where the fountains were and see Santa! Then hit the arcade downstairs and ride some rocket ride thing. Those were the days.
Someone I knew told me a story about his recent experience there one evening. He was in the parking lot just before dark and a black guy came up to him and yelled at him to leave (he is white) under the pretense that white people can only be there during the day but at night it's black people territory.

I still live in St. John and I also used to go here as a kid. I walked around a bit in March when we were checking out what was left at the Macy's closing sale. Its spooky how quiet it is. It's crazy that they didnt close up the empty Macy's store!
Re: Northwest Plaza
ok ill sak WHY its not a bad place and there are tons of people in that area what is goign on its liek the crestwood mall is almost the exact same thing maceys closes then one by one the little shops that make it a cool place to go

Re: Northwest Plaza
ropingK, the mall went downhill because of gang activity. Pure and simple. The police departments did jack shit to keep the gangbangers out and the mall went downhill. They made a cursory effort a while back after a girl got raped to instate a curfew, but it did no good and it didn't last long. Some fucker shot at a cop about 4-5 years ago in the mall while my best friend was working at Macy's.
Re: Northwest Plaza
well that would do it man im glad i moved out of that area

RE: Northwest Plaza
Yeah same here. Since I got out of there, all I've heard of north stl is that it's pretty much becoming inundated with gangs and dope dealers. And that sux especially for us UE-ers because we are more likely to run into them. I guess that's just one of our on-job hazards.ropingk wrote: im glad i moved out of that area

I went up there last night just to look around-- wow its in sad shape and the really strange part is that back 20 years ago When I went there all the time it was so different nothing was enclosed so it looks like they spent a ton of money on it to up date it and now it looks like this wow

RE: Northwest Plaza
So....took my daughter there a few weeks ago because she is a very rambunctious 3-year-old and it was a great place for her to just run around uninterrupted. Anyway, We were taking pics of her and stuff and wound up getting escorted out of the building by security because there are no pics allowed to be taken at the mall.
I can't believe they had to escort us OUT OF THE BUILDING considering there were no signs at the entrance explaining that there are no cameras allowed. Telling us to put it away would have been the much nicer thing to do....
Oh well. Got a few good ones anyway....
