If you are asking about size of the cave in the pictures...
i'm not good at judging distance (especially underground), but I think he said we went in about 40 yards, give or take.
It kind of wraps around, and you can stand fully in most of it. We stopped when we saw the bat, but after that the tunnel gets smaller, and has a rougher terrain.
There's no spectacular things to look at, no formations or anything, but it was so much larger/longer than I expected.

RE: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
I would recommend going at least once, and it is worth making the trip for all three caves. Of course unless you have crazy ninja skills and a way to get into the other one you can only get into the one in the post.

Oh and you get great newsletters.Nicotti wrote:I thought the reason to join a grotto was so you could get into locked caves, without a pair of bolt cutters.BROUSER wrote:Don't take offense, Veruth. Grotto members and "serious" cavers all immediately assume that all human beings other than themselves enter caves with either the intent to destroy or the lack of knowledge to properly move about in the cave without destroying the entire ecosystem. That seems to be the main reason for joining a grotto: so you can evolve into a superhuman who can enter such spaces and have zero impact on a caves environment. And while I will admit they do a wonderful job of educating individuals concerning those issues, they seem to forget that there are other resources for attaining the knowledge necessary to go into a cave without wreaking havoc.
found a caver forum.. http://nssmembersforum.proboards28.com/index.cgi
oh and the KC Area Grotto publishes their newsletter online at their website.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

RE: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
I think that I am going to go out there tomorrow, mainly because I want to see what it looks like in the snow. I know that it is short notice but anyone that would like to see the other caves is welcome to join me.

Re: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
I was planning on trying it make it out to the hydraslide if the snow is still deep enough. We could do both.
RE: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
good idea. I will give you a call. Is there anyone else that would like to come? Anyone that is free is more than welcome.

Re: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
Is there an actual spring at Ritter Springs? Cause I went over there for the first time the other day, and I didn't see any springs.

Re: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
It looks like the pond is spring-fed.
Re: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
you mean the stream that flows into the pond, or that there's a spring in the pond?

Re: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
When we went, we thought both. I noticed an area in the pond that appeared to be where the spring was (based on water movement), and my husband said he saw what looked like an "inlet" helping to feed the pond.
RE: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
I believe the spring is at the base of the hill as it rises out of the southernmost pond.

RE: Ritter Springs Park and Cave
The spring is coming out of a small hole about the size of your head in the hillside below the trail that leads to devils den after you cross the bridge over the waterfall. Someone has also built a trough like area that holds water and has a pipe coming out of it to fill up buckets or whatever. Does anyone know why they filled in the cave behind the archery range?
