More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

SourceThe development’s first phase focuses on the project’s centerpiece: renovation of the foundry, the oldest part built in 1929 for Century Electric Co., a maker of electric motors. The company expanded the foundry Federal-Mogul used later to make brake parts before closing it in 2007.

Environmental cleanup at the site began a month ago. Lawrence Group hopes to open City Foundry’s first phase in fall 2018...

Even though the place was pretty empty, I really liked it. Hopefully they do something cool with it. Not sure how the hell you could clean up all that grime though.

I got a nice scar from a fence there many years ago.

Preservation over plunder.
Re: Federal Mogul Cleanup
I drive past it every day, they're chugging along on it.
But if it fails, hopefully it'll be easier to explore.

Re: Federal Mogul Cleanup
FM was a client many years ago for monthly contracting. At the time I thought the complex was cool but was more fascinated by everything else in Wellston because I’d never seen anything like it. One thing I remember was the business model they were using in the early 2000’s is that they had no capital improvement budget. Everything was break fix and if it weren’t for insurance purposes and/or auditors they wouldn’t have had us out unless it was broken first. They were in coast mode for at least a decade if not more.
The background of this eventual (and unnecessary) state of desolation at FM has to do with its Chief of Strategery who was non other than Carl Icahn. This would be the same man who nuked TWA when he came into ownership of the thriving airline that was headquartered here in STL. XO communications was another one he liquidated here locally. Pretty Woman co-star Richard Gere actually played a role loosely based on Icahn at least on the business acumen of the plot. It’s easy to think of that movie as something else but the part I’m talking about had to do with a guy buying companies specifically to sell them off through liquidation. I might not have cool pics of FM to share from that period of time but I got my on the job training right lol.

Never mind. Looks like you guys were talking about midtown. I was talking about the sprawling complex on Ogden. Sorry for the confusion
