RE: How did you Discover Underground Ozarks?
Stumbled on this forum looking for caves still open in MO. I've cave-crawled around the Jacks Fork a few times, crawled mines in UT and NM, got dirty in some of the nicer caves in TN, done some in Indiucky, IL, and IA.
Now that I'm a bit older I don't get to take off and have fun as much as I'd like, but I drink and swear more than I used to, to there's always that.
I have a trip coming up to the Eminence area once again, and figured I might as well try to milk those in the know for a bit of knowledge. From what I've seen here I believe this site is chock-full of my kind of people.

RE: How did you Discover Underground Ozarks?
I'm pretty sure it was from searching for info on Monte Ne. I first heard about it over 40 years ago from friends in the Springdale area when it was more legend than anything. There was a lot of activity then on UO due to Beaver Lake being down and much of the ampitheater being above water. By the time I got a chance to visit Monte Ne, the water was back up. That was about the same time the Mississippi and Missouri rivers were way down and lots of old steamboat hulls were visible. I visited St. Louis in 1988 for a convention when the river was so low that you couldn't see anything but levee on the riverboat tour. It was 103 in the shade and the hotel A/C couldn't really handle it. Sorry to see the architectural losses in St. Louis. People flock to Williamsburg and Disneyland to see fake old buildings and let their own hometown treasures go under the bulldozer.

I saw a news article about White Rabbit and the OU site. Went on line and checked out the site and thought......where the hell has this site been all my life.
And then there's all you silly bastards that make this site the best ever!

Found a business card while exploring the tunnels down town in 05.

I think the real reason why I joined was because I was looking for the location of Acid Tunnel.SubLunar wrote:that's not nearly creative or nefarious enough. Paul, you suck at this.
