RE: Krey Packing Company
The neighborhood is a ghost town. I've never had problems there.
Krey's is pretty mad max/post apocalyptic looking. It's some sort of active (believe it or not) scrapyard/rebuilders. There's dogs in there that like to bark.

If you ever go wandering around that area, I recommend going to the Cornerstone Cafe for lunch.

A link to some more pix of Krey and that area in general: http://www.stlouiscitytalk.com/2011/01/ ... rhood.html
Krey had a really good reputation for good meats way back when. It was started in 1882 and lasted until 1978, when the family-owners sold the name to Morrell and closed the plant, citing a dearth of hogs available in STL.

yeah, I wish Shreve's would GTFO. It's not like they're maintaining it. Just let us explore it, damnit.
RE: Krey Packing Company
The nearby Gruensfelder Meat Packing building is for lease. Never investigated that one.
Re: Krey Packing Company
Do these old meat processing/packing/whatever plants still have any residual smell to them? or have they been abandoned and open to the elements long enough to air out?
Re: Krey Packing Company
That place does look incredible. I came to post, as above, that Shreve's uses the building now.

Armour is throughly aired out.lolabelle wrote:Do these old meat processing/packing/whatever plants still have any residual smell to them? or have they been abandoned and open to the elements long enough to air out?
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.
