So....just to reinterate.....please close the man-hole covers in the tunnel.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

sometmes those manholes really bring harm to people. a friend of mine fell in one of those manholes but luckily he survived. it was a struggle for his family though cause he did broke a lot of bones thank god his spine was not affected so he did not go into some paralysis. i do hope that people will be more concerned and have the initiative to close the manholes when they see it just so they can look out for the safety of other people as well. i for one has the initiative because i know how they can be dangerous especially if poor kids fell into those.

Re: Dear anyone who frequents the Jordan Creek Tunnel:
Luckily for me, I didn't go all the way in. Even if I had, it was only about 4 feet down, so I probably would have been okay. Honestly, I fucked myself up worse than the manhole did. When I tried to catch my fall, I didn't release the maglight, and that's why my fingers got crushed.
I wound up with a subungual hematoma, which means my nail turned purple and swelled tremendously. The first few days the pain was intense. Normally, it would have required trephination of the nail, which would have relieved most of the swelling and reduced the pain significantly. But since the periosteum (tip of the finger) was shattered that could have caused a "closed fracture" to become an "open fracture", and that would be susceptible to all sorts of nasty myco-bacteria that could prevent the finger from ever healing properly. So I just had to wait for the pain to go away, which feels something like having a vice-grip clamped to your fingertip for four days non-stop.
My leg wasn't too bad after a night of rest. I got really lucky, as it could have easily got caught in the manhole when I fell forward. That would've snapped it backwards... I'm not even sure how I avoided that happening, because my knee was pretty swollen and abraded, so I know my leg went far enough in for that to happen.
Luckily, my sister-in-law had some Naproxen, so I didn't need an E.R. visit. It could have been a lot worse. The weird part is, I swear I heard that manhole open on our way in, but there was nobody inside.

This drainage tunnel just west of Hells church, water always running out. Didn't crawl back into it. Probably the OG spring of this town.
