The Deepest Hole Ever

Post by Sirius »

i was reading national geographic today and there was an article about a group of guys who are exploring the deepest cave known to man. it's over 2000m deep and they're still finding new passages. i would love to be the guy that gets to explore this place for a living.

I was expecting a thread about Paris Hilton.

*rimshot*

Seriously, though, I'm gonna have that issue soon, and I can't wait to read that. My grandfather gets National Geographic, and he always sends them to me after he reads them.

haha! Of course I could name an ex that would probably beat Paris Hilton for this catigory. "She's like the village bicycle baby! Everyone's had a ride!"

Deepest in Missouri is Marvel at Silver Dollar City.
There is a spring under lake Wappapello that would have probably beat that depth record but the divers ran into problems before reaching the depth of Marvel.
There is a new discovery in Utah that may beat the
present US depth record (Hawaii excluded). Only problem is limited exploration season due to altitude and snow.

Meramcw Springs outside of St James has a deep hole--I dont know how deep it is This may be a rumor but I always heard it was so deep the divers could not get to the bottom
What I do know is it cranks out a lot of ice cold trout filled water (ok so the water is not full of trout)

Cosmic Caverns down in Berryville has an underground lake that they haven't been able to fully explore. The last time they tried to find the "bottom," they had to turn back because an extremely powerful underground current ripped off one of the diver's masks and spooked them pretty bad.

Yes, lava tubes.

I was once on a tour of Meramec Caverns
and the guide spewed some bullshit about
the cave continuing on for another 15 miles
blah blah.
I had to contain my snorts. Little did she know
that the last survey of that cave was done by a friend of mine. Length is listed as 4.5 miles.
Commercial cave guides spew the biggest load of rubbish and lies
I've ever heard about caves. The rare exceptions are
state and national park cave guides.

Oh,,,,and that cave in Utah.
Normally you would have to be an NSS member to
read about it but the NSS has been nice enough
to put the article online.

I'm sorry, but I there are songs out there (churchish or not) that just sond wrong when your in the right frame of mind. In the words of Tom Lehter "When correctly viewed, everything is lewd. I could tell you things about Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz - There's a dirty old man!"
