Drive a TANK

Post by ropingk »

People love an adrenaline rush, which is why we participate in extreme activities and go bulk shopping. Go big with this Groupon.

Choose from Three Options
•$239 for a 3 Star Lieutenant General tank-driving experience for one (a $399 value)
•$469 for the above experience for two (a $798 value)
•$899 for the above experience for four (a $1,596 value)

Each tank-driving experience begins with an informational bonanza that covers the history of the FV433 Abbot SPG, a self-propelled artillery vehicle. After a safety-and-familiarization course, participants ride in a historical military vehicle to the hidden field-command headquarters. There, they hop into an armored FV433 for one lap around a wooded course. Next, they ride back to the training facility to participate in firearm safety training and fire a real World War II machine gun at the indoor range while an instructor stands ready to assist. Check Drive A Tank's schedule here.

Drive A Tank

Drive A Tank teaches civilians how to handle tanks by placing them at the controls of an FV433 Abbot tank. Comprehensive tank experiences include lessons on the history of its use, from World War I up to its present function as the vehicle of choice for the most aggressive holiday shoppers. During certain packages, tanksters complete their militaristic forays by test firing WWII-era weaponry or crushing cars beneath behemoth

I would definitely do that if it was around here, google says this is in MN.

$240 to drive a tank, might as well.

Do we get to fire the tank too?
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Except if it came up against a real tank, it would get clobbered. It's a British 105mm self propelled howitzer similar to our defunct M108 but smaller. Armor is paper thin compared to a real tank. The only real advantage it had is that there was usually a bunch of infantry and real armor between it and the bad guys!

Still pretty cool, though.

They talk about firing WWII weapons, but I think that means after the tank, they let you shoot an old gun at the range. Also it looks like the car crushing might cost extra.

There's supposed to be a sealed-up cave here that's full of surplus tanks, once we find that you guys can come up and drive them :-D
