Visited what is said to be an old saltpeter mine north of Big Flat. It was larger than we expected and did not bring spare batteries so we had to cut it short.
My daughter and niece are in the front of the picture. This should give an idea of just how big this place is.

Yeah the picture I was sent look about like that without in people in it. So we thought it was going to be a little mine shaft. That picture was just part way in. We didn't get to far before the batteries in the flashlight died. Don't know how far it goes as we didn't get to the end.

Cool pics, thanks as always for sharing!
I'm sure you've heard the rumors of how 'saltpeter' got its name...

This cave is also known as Almus Knob Cave and is fairly easy to get to. At the end of Rand Road 4.5 mi. northwest of Big Flat, Ark. Was there last Oct.

So it's at the "T" intersection with 145, just south of Huffman Gap? That's what I see on google maps when I follow rand rd out of Big Flat. Thanks!hogtexan wrote:This cave is also known as Almus Knob Cave and is fairly easy to get to. At the end of Rand Road 4.5 mi. northwest of Big Flat, Ark. Was there last Oct.
