That's a pretty vague question. Is what axle where? Do you mean the one from the 1904 World's Fair hidden somewhere in Forest Park?

supposedly. the only problem is they buried it to get rid of it, never keeping track of where it is. i don't think it is in one piece either.

It's all speculation and rumors. No one really knows.

rust is a result of contact with air right?

if so, then .little/no rust

corrosion would be more likely. all the water rushing over would eat it

I doubt they buried anything. there's written history of everything being sold to companies cheap for resale after the fair was over if they took the buildings down. it would have been dragged off and melted down

I'd vote urban legend

i am skeptical, they document the removal of most of the other stuff, but really don't say anything about the axle, which would kind of make sense at leaving it in the park.

Does anyone have a metal detector? There are about 72,483,840 square feet in the park. Assuming that the average sweep is 4 feet wide, taking one step with one sweep every second, it would only take 1,677 hours to complete a sweep of the entire park.

Of course, there are trees and other obstacles that lessen the square area that needs to be swept, but there is no accurate way of measuring that variable without a great deal of work that I am not about to do.

Let us put this urban legend to the test, don't think of it as work, but as a valuable service to the community.

You forgot to figure in the time spent digging up false positives. :)

Otherwise, I'm with you!!

You get started, I'll stand over here and supervise. 8)

I just thought that we would come in with a back hoe and dig them up that way, they wont mind giant holes all over the park, the hobos can sleep in them.

Now, about the order... I thought that I would put everyones name in a hat, and draw for who went when. I will of course take care of the organization for the whole thing. Unfortunately I don't think that will leave much time for searching. Oh well, sacrifices must be made.

Hopefully the city won't mind all the iron water & sewer pipe we dig up accidentally...

City Offical: "You can't dig up every large piece of metal that you pick up with a metal detector!!"

Curor: "Hey is it my fault that a ferris wheel axel resembles a water pipe underground. Look at it this way, you got yourself lots of fountains and
giant pools now, just like they had during the fair!"
