Question in the Zoo the old metal bird cage isnt that part of the 1904 fair?? if it is does any one knwo where the wheel was compared to the cage??? and really what could you do with it??? it had to be huge unless it was in several pecies and i still think ti is most likely decayed away into the soil

I wish the Grand Basin was still around, that would be cool.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

The city of St. Louis purchased the Flight Cage (with no birds) for $3,500 in 1905, and this helped lead to the formal establishment of the Saint Louis Zoo in 1916.

Edit: Talks about the ferris wheel on the page too.

That thing was solid iron. I doubt it's even degraded 5%.

What? Really? The pools and fountains and everything?

Or am I thinking about a different part of the fair? I was refering to how it originally was, with buildings connected by bridges and stuff.

The Grand Basin is the large pool that is at the bottom of Art Hill in front of the Art Museum, isn't it? If you look at the old pictures and pictures today, they look pretty similar.

Does anyone know the original location of the Ferris Wheel? Thats where I'd start.
Also,
After the world's fair I'm sure there was alot of odds and ends of rubbish...
Who's to say that "Back in the Day" they didn't just dig a Pit or Trench and create an onsite dump site.
Doesn't sound completely unfeaseble.

There are three (i think) known dump sites they created for all the fair stuff.

The wheel was originally created for the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair and was shipped to St. Louis for the 1904 Fair by railroad car.
