We did it.
Theolotus and I checked out the old Holiday inn and Devils slide/ Hillcrest Skippers cave.
The hotel is posted as a police dog training facility, but only worns to beware of dogs, nothing about tresspassing or private property. But there is nothing really to check out anymore. They have boarded everything off and everything. Although I am going to see if I can get permission to use the site for my movie, it is perfect! It kinda reminded me of that site about the phoney Chernobyl trip... all abandoned and looking like they just left it to rot.
The skippers cave was alright though. We parked at a nearby lot and walked through the woods. We found an old foundation of somekind that sounds hollow and several Deer stands. Back were the two creeks meet there looked like the starts of running city sewer out to the area north of springfield. Tons of 4-5 ft pipes and gravel. The cave is similar to the small cave at ritter. On a very steep hill, and not much more then a little hall/tunnel ending in a small room. The cool part was that we got to test out my new head-lamp. It is a Rayo-vac, With two red leds, a single white led, and a very bright krypton. I really love it! Plus the best part is it was only 12.97! When we came out, it was already dark so we went up to the road and walked the long way back.

We parked at Dickerson park zoo and walked through the woods behind Hillcrest... btw anyone who goes to there, the sewage pipe down by the creek is busted and real REALLY stinks!

RE: We did it.
Deer season (gun) in Missouri just started Saturday 12th so be careful walking through the woods. I don't hunt but most of my co-workers do.
Caving impaired,,,too old, too fat, don't care.

RE: We did it.
Well, It is not a hotel (rooms inside accessed by a hallway) it is a motel (all the rooms open up outside.)
The only "getting in" you could do is room by room, although there are a few store rooms for house keeping, and ice rooms.
The only place that would really kick arse to get inside is the lobby/office. But, it is way up near the road and holiday inns lobby. Would get kinda tricky real quick, but would have to be worth it. Plus there is a stretch of rooms near the lobby that still have the furniture from all the rooms crammed in them. They would probably be kinda cool.

Yeah, I saw some hunters out in the woods this weekend when I was out on a hike. I was like "oh wait... is it deer season?"

Yeah, I've got some places that will have to wait until after deer season to avoid being spotted/shot. It's not the customary two weeks this year either, it's 31 days.
