Camping hammocks

Post by crazydrummerdude »

I'm in the market for a camping hammock. Something that packs small enough to carry on a motorcycle.

Any suggestions?

Panic's hairy scrotum.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Can't beat sleeping on the ol' bat wing.

I have a decent hammock I use (that blue one I used when we camped out for farm time) and it packs up into a thing smaller than my head. I forget what brand it is, I'll have to go see when I get home.

The thing with hammocks though, is you usually need like a wool blanket or something to use as an underliner or else you get a cool breeze blowing over your asshole and you wake up wondering who's playing the pan flute and blow bottles. This extra shit basically voids the purpose of packing light. Probably you can get away without the underlining blanket if you're camping somewhere relatively warm at night. But if it gets into the 40s you'll have some frigid buns. They do make minimalist sleeping bags that weigh about 1.5 lbs and are rated for 40 degrees, pack into a little 6"X10" thing, but 40 degrees is pretty much bare bottom, 1 less degree and you're hypothermic.

My final recommendation: Save room by hunting coyote or wolf or bear and skin it and sleep on the brain tanned pelt like a man. You'll wake up with a full beard and an extra testicle, ready to eat a hearty breakfast of ̶b̶̶̶i̶̶̶s̶̶̶c̶̶̶u̶̶̶i̶̶̶t̶̶̶s̶̶̶ ̶̶̶a̶̶̶n̶̶̶d̶̶̶ ̶̶̶g̶̶̶r̶̶̶a̶̶̶v̶̶̶y̶̶̶ nails and lava.

Could you use one of those tin foil emergency blankets as an underliner?
