Awesome information, thanks!

Pea Ridge owned four nearby orebodies? That'd be Bourbon, Camels Hump, Krantz Spring, and which other? I'd be amazed if anyone managed to acquire the mineral rights to the entire Bourbon orebody without just buying out the town and moving it, with how it's supposedly right under the town.

I poked around the area a bit this week. It really doesn't look like there is any activity at the mine. Pea Ridge Resources' website is down, and both phone numbers I found were disconnected.

The plan was to contact the company and arrange for myself and a couple others to walk the site with their permission, but the contact portion is probably a bust now. Anyone have good points of contact for this one?

I'm not sure how the mineral rights thing works, but I do know that the Iron Ore would be mined out from under Bourbon without anyone on the surface being able to tell it was happening. There would be no need to move the town. And I don't have any good contact info for the Pea Ridge property any more, since Jim Kennedy sold it. I do believe that MFC Industrial Ltd. has partnered with Alberici Construction as far as current ownership, with MFC owning the majority. And originally MFC felt as though they could extract rare earth minerals from the mine. (In my opinion that was a pipe dream, as we core sampled and tested for rare earth with only a small trace found here and there)

Thanks for the heads-up. MFC looks like a major banking company; Alberici is based in St Louis and may be easier to get in touch with. Getting out there may have to wait for this fall; I've got an internship with a mining company in Arizona over the summer.

Theoretically, mineral rights can be severed from surface rights. With the number of landowners in Bourbon, mineral rights acquisitions would be near to impossible, which is probably why that deposit hasn't been mined yet.

Awesome video! I'd like to get out there this fall; I have a hunch that the shafts will not be flooded to the top, so at least the first fifty feet may be accessible. No access to the working levels, but still neat.

Guess the proposed tunnel never went in. Wish I could find the article I read that talked about pumping it out and transporting slurry via underground pipeline. Then the slurry would be rinsed and transported. The article was from like three years ago.
