Winoka's not really that far from 65. I'll stop by sometime soon and look at it.

These are the structures over by Rivercut, not Winoka. I keep meaning to make it over there, and then I run out of time. I'll get out there some time this week.

And I think Winoka is just kid's playing around. There seems to be some rent a cop company that walks out there now. I got caught at Winoka last time I went. They seem mainly concerned with the pool, and they came in from the west side by the bridge. My guess is if Winoka had bums, the sheriff would eventually be breaking up their camp, unless I just happened to be there the only time security was checking.

Winoka seems to be under much heavier lock down these days, only a few years ago you could go out there pretty much unmolested. In any event, once while out there I found a hobo camped in the garage area under the shower house next to the pool. He has a little fire and a sleeping bad and a kettle with instant coffee on. I kinda came up on him suddenly and he startled me and I just went "Uhhh....good morning."

And he greeted me and offered me some of his coffee. I didn't accept and just went on my way, but he seemed rather friendly.

Not like a hobo I once ran into downtown who was asking for change, and my girlfriend, very moved, told him that if he has looking for food and a place to sleep that the Missouri Hotel was just a little ways off and he kinda spat and said "I don't want a bed I want a fucking drink."

All I could think was "way to be a stereotype hobo."

Maybe he's just good at not being there when security walks through. I've seen the fire pits under the pool, and someone has covered the front with trees. I found it interesting the first thing they did was walk in that pit area, look around, and then escorted us back to the road. It was like finding us wasn't enough. They were looking for something different in there. They apparently don't tear it down though. He would have to be hiding all of his other stuff. Nothing else was under the pool.

It's the last place I'd choose to be if I was homeless. There's no place looking for cheap manual labor anywhere near there, and that place probably has more visitors than any other abandoned spot in Springfield. I guess you'd have an immense amount of deer and fish.
