Abandoned sections of Old Wire Road

I saw a photo in a newspaper or magazine within the past 5 years of a section of the Old Wire Road, somewhere between Fayetteville and Ft. Smith which was little more than a rough and steep trail through the trees. The article stated that there was interest in recovering the road for a bike path.

Does anyone know where this is? I am interested in exploring old roads and trails on horseback.

I would also like directions to the abandoned railroad near Holiday Island.
