Dogpatch Update on NPR

Post by Zeno »

I tuned in this morning on the way home from Fayetteville and they were talking about Dogpatch USA. Apparently they have a new owner who is planning on turning the place into an eco-tourist location with organic gardens and stuff. The guy said he only bought about half the property and isn't even exactly sure where the property line is. He said he planned on rebuilding the bridges but that was about it.

Then right after they finished that interview, they went on to talk about the storm drains in Eureka Springs. They basically just said they were getting pretty bad and maintenance would be needed in the next few years. They sent a guy down to photograph them and the guy said at one part there was a huge crack in the ceiling with dirt falling through and it didn't look safe at all.

Anyone else catch Ozarks at Large today or heard from another source?

Well... There's this, but it's from the 2nd most unreliable news source in Arkansas...
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

“I was a huge fan of Dogpatch as a kid, but one of the problems of the original park, in my opinion, was that everybody was required to wear clothing. If you’re going to have a water park, people should be able to swim nude, as God intended,” Pelsor said.

Wow he didnt say anything about that on the NPR interview. Either way I wouldn't expect DP to be around long.

KY3 just had an interview with the owner on, saying the same thing plus some of their plans for the place.

Over Thanksgiving, my uncle (who lives in Arkansas) told me something about knowing someone who knew someone who bought the place and was planning on opening it. I actually sorta secretly snickered at him until I saw the KY3 story.

Man, I wish I had enough spare time to keep up with everything. The first weekend of December the new owners organized 2 days of walking tours through Dogpatch with cameras allowed. I would have loved to have gone to this. The article mentions another one may be held next spring. We should consider making it a meetup event.

The recent tour also contributed to a rash of new photos on Flickr:

I think someone stole the cart from the roller coaster a few years ago.
