Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
Hi everyone. Been lurking for a few months and am now getting excited to start exploring. On a bike ride around the old RG Airforce base, I found a building that has some great exploration potential. What makes me nervous is who owns it.

Didn't see a Zimmer real estate sign on it (like the hangars and office buildings). It was my understanding that all land there was sold to KCMO several years ago. Anyone have some guidance?

Re: Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
check for some unlocked doors/windows..if you're really worried, call Zimmer and inquire about the building in question as though you're interested in buying it

Lack of windows and only two doors, i'd guess cold storage of some sort.

Re: Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
If I recall, there's a wide open door on the west side. I haven't had time to head out there yet. I did some research and feel better (I think) about going in. The building is NOT on KCMO's building inventory (https://data.kcmo.org/Land-Use/Buildings/ex28-gm4e), even though its inside KCMO.redox wrote:check for some unlocked doors/windows
On a side note, is there some reason the BBCode doesn't work for URLs?

you're doing it wrong. Just put the link in the post. No [.url][./url] needed.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Hmm that is an interesting looking area. It would be wise to make very sure that building isn't being used by a government agency. I think the federal statutes regarding trespassing could be rather harsh. That said, the air traffic control tower looks inviting.

The control tower would be awesome, but difficult since the building directly south of it is occupied by an active fire department. The four hangars to the north are all unoccupied and extremely tempting, but they DO have Zimmer real estate signs on them and are probably monitored.redox wrote:Hmm that is an interesting looking area.

That being said, I'd be willing to try as long as I'm with a veteran explorer.

RE: Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
Thanks, Redox. I'll check em out.
My wife and I finally visited the site today. Nothing to write home about, but we didn't go in too deep. Our flashlights weren't that great, so we stuck mostly to areas that were naturally lit which was a small portion of the building. 2 stories above ground (not sure about below). It was mostly offices with a large room in the center , break room on one side, and a possible utility room on the other. Boiler room by the front entrance had a strange type of wall that I've never seen before. Possibly sound dampening panels?
Had fun and will try to go back with better lighting. If anyone wants to join, let me know. Below are a handfull of photos.

Thanks. Guess I'm too new to be trusted with URLs.
Re: RE: Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
Someone has finally found a img share that i can't figure out how to link to, Congrats.hoyeboye wrote:Thanks. Guess I'm too new to be trusted with URLs.
You know if you put the pics on a normal img site you can link the pic to show up here rather than making us file your url links. So much extra work...

Re: Exploring in Belton (NOOB)
Got around to uploading all the photos to a "normal image site".

Some more info on the building. My Mom grew up in Belton in the 60s. She remembers going on a tour of the building in middle school which was a big deal at the time. She recalled hearing it was part of NORAD's system, but wasn't sure. Can't wait to go back and dig a little deeper.
