Started a Blog

Post by jammer_smith »

I do a bit of blogging, but have never blogged my adventures. I decided to start. Check it out if you feel inclined.

And yes, I took the picture in the header during a trip to Montana last winter....and it was awesome.

I like the little injections of geology in there. The line of sinks don't really have a name, but you're right, they do follow collapsed portions of massive cave systems which in turn follow joints in the rocks which gives you linear patterns in sinks on the surface.

Gravelle pit looks neat too. Do you know anything about the landowner or if they'd even be willing to let equipped people check it out?

Well, when they fenced it, they didn't include a gate, so getting in easily was not part of the plan. However the cave was both mapped and used for dye tracing back in the 70's, so access is probably possible, but probably not to a cavers who just want to explore.

For all that, it might not have even been fenced in the 70's when they explored and mapped it.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

yeah, the map shows the fence around the entrance. The fence isn't secured with the typicaly twists of wire that hold most chain link fences to their posts, but rather with bolted clamps. For it to be entered you'd have to get a wrench and un-do the bolts.

New Post

The Ozarks = The Shire

A reflection on the very pretty countryside we enjoy, and an excuse to post a few neat pictures that don't add up to posts on their own.

Yup, she does.

Or rather she told me about it, and I can't remember the real name right now so that's what I'm calling it.
