New to the website, absolutley amazing stuff.
Was curious to know if anyone has ever been to the former Boy Scout Camp Irondale, it closed down in the sixties, and apparently there are still some remnants of the place left. |

| From what I understand it is in Washington County, MO in a very small town, which is called Irondale. Apparently, when it opened in the early 1900's, the only way to the camp was by Union Pacific Railroad. and they had the first olympic size swimming pool. Would love to see if anyone has any knowledge of it still being there. |

There's a bunch of stuff out there on this. The camp was developed into Camp Irondale Estates, which was later annexed by the city. If you look at the town, it looks like everything on the east side of Hwy M is the old camp property.
Looks like the swimming pool right here, to me --> Click Me

Welcome!
There's not like a set group of us that go explore, like a club or something. We just find people in our areas that like to explore stuff also. Then PM them or whatever and get friendships and explorations going. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

WOW! This is the first time I've thought of Irondale in many decades!
When I was a Scout in the early '50s, that was our "away" camp during the Summer.
Then Beaumont opened around 1953-4 and that was it for STL-area Scouts' usage.
I was unaware it had closed.
Trivia- the Irondale song we used to sing around the campfires:
"Irondale, camp we love,
Live forever - in our memories.
May the Scouts be ever loyal -
Irondale, to thee."
How about that!

| Not much to see. Many of the old camp buildings are still around the "lake" near the entrance to the place but there are also a lot of houses built all around there too. Basically, you can drive by and see what there is to see. Just not worth going out of your way for unless you are also planning to check out some of the other stuff in the area, although there has been a real effort the last few years to tear down the better spots so there's not a lot to see anymore. |
