Looks like a good photo op site or a place to spend a Saturday. Reminds me of Wood-Smith. Also there's an abandoned bath house or two there.

Last time I went to Wood-Smith, I was taking my woman out for her first UE experience. We got up to the fence and I propped the one up with a board I found. I was untying all those little metal twisty things that keep chain link fences secured when she said "Hey look!" I looked up and saw the security guard coming right at us. So we took off running.

They must have some video surveillance there now. There's no way the guy heard us or just happened to see us through the woods. That was like almost 2 years ago now, though.

And some interesting facts about Fort Belle Fontaine from that website:

Quote:
Fort Bellefontaine (which is now partially a St. Louis County park) was established in 1805 on the south bank of the Missouri River as the first U.S. military installation west of the Mississippi.

I go here all the time! This is part of the bath house. I heard that there is an old training area in the woods with ropes and shit but I haven't found it.

Charlie Dooley intends to close this park as well as Lone Elk, among others.

Also, I've been to Belle Fontaine, it's pretty cool and has some cool things to looks at along the trail and all, but I didn't see anything worth thorough investigation. Couple springs n shit in the area. Also I have the need to say there's a cave around or in the park, but I could be completely wrong on that. Will I look it up before posting this? No.

Also, I think the cave is right where the creek meets the river. The water has to be pretty low to even see it.

Went there today for a couple hours after a stop at old town donuts. We mucked around by the stream a little while, looking for potential caves. A couple possibilities, but not sure.

The areas with the stone fire places would be a good place for a meetup.

Either way a great place to spend a day.

Excellent. Sounds like I should go there some time. I still haven't been..

Looks like they removed the park from the official website!

Not too far northwest of the park are a couple of abandoned-looking buildngs, although they're close to an active quarry of some sort and the highway. They don't look worth exploring to me, but maybe someone in the area will want to check them out.

Also, is this the training area you were looking for, Mandi? http://binged.it/yXyq2Z

SubLunar, here's the park listing on the county website.
