I haven't asked anyone to raise my debt ceiling lately.
Also, the majority of people used to grow their own food.
If I have time at some point I might respond to the rest, but it seems like you're a fan of the current system so far be it from me to suggest that our current direction is the wrong one.
Also, cut failing programs like the Dept of education, etc. Gotta go...
One more thing real quick: I made a passing comment regarding our inability to grow our own food as a general statement about the state of things as a whole. Your paragraphs of response were so defensive you'd think I was criticizing you personally. For the record, I do manage a garden with my brothers and my family owns a farm. We're growing corn, some tobacco and cotton among other things. So what may seem totally "insane" to you is actually not that bad and all you need is a yard. But again, I wasn't attacking individual laziness as your butthurt reply seems to think. More the way the system has groomed us all to be. We can't go on this way. |

My gf's over so I'm trying to not be on here right now....
But I will say this: If anyone can't find something better to do than watch television, like AI for example, then that really is sad. We're only on this earth for such a short time, why waste it away gaining nothing by staring at the idiot box? Kill your television, unless it promises to only play educational programming. This has been a public service announcement. If you disagree, well I don't give a shit. |

I neither favor nor disfavor the system.
Nor do I have any definite opinion about most every political issue. However, if I see someone complaining about the government or putting forth ideas that I don't perceive as well thought out or based on hearsay then I will challenge them.
| Quote: | | Also, the majority of people used to grow their own food. |
From this tiny amount of discourse we've had you seem to be a proponent to Agrarianism, at least to some degree. Personally I think America is past a point where the country can successfully support itself as an Agrarian society.
Maybe you have a more in-depth plan of how to make it work, but you haven't shared it with the rest of the class yet.
| Quote: | | all you need is a yard. |
Exactly. All I need is a yard. Which I don't have, I have a 2' x 4' space of carpeted real estate in front of my window that gets enough sun light through it during the day to support a plant. So a food sustainability plan like what you're describing doesn't really work for me, or other apartment dwellers. Or people that don't have greenthumbs.
| Quote: | | More the way the system has groomed us all to be. We can't go on this way. |
See it's statements like that that rile me up. People, in general, complain about stuff, but don't do anything. Which obviously isn't the case for you & your sustainability thoughts. But if people don't like the government they shouldn't sit around going, "They should do this," or "This isn't working." They should get involved, join rallys, get on committees, run for office, instead of just bitching about the system.
For example: My mom complains about it all the time. I finally told her to quit bitching about it to me, if she didn't like the world she needed to go out into it and change it herself, cause I sure as hell wasn't going to make it better for her. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

You still seem to think I said that everyone should grow their own food, or that you personally are dumb for not growing your own. I never said any such thing.
Although, when you consider how much time and money people put into the look of their grass, it is kind of ridiculous. They could spend that time in their garden and actually get something useful out of it. When I did lawncare, I saw first-hand the length people will go to.
Next, you assume I don't do anything about it and all I do is bitch about the way things are. That is not the case either. I do my part. And I stand by everything I've said. |

Actually I didn't assume you did nothing, as I tried to convey with the phrase, " Which obviously isn't the case for you & your sustainability thoughts," and by using the term "they" instead of "you." I was using your comments as a jump point, since they sound the same as those from the complainers. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

You're right. I am assuming you mean the entire nation, since in your original comment you used the terms, "we," and, "we're," in describing American society. And as you had not quantified it or specified who your referring to I've had no reason to assume otherwise, until you mentioned in the above post that you are referring to a certain unnamed subset of people.
And I'm still not taking the comments personally. But I am using personal examples. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

My comment was, as I've said already, in regards to the state of things as a whole. A generalized observation about the state of the society in which we live. You're trying to pin it down to be a point it wasn't by questioning my beliefs about an agrarian system and its pitfalls and approach it in a way that presumed I was a proponent of such to be applied universally to everyone, including apartment dwellers and city folk.
I find it difficult to understand that you can say you neither favor nor disfavor the system. So you're content with the way things are? You are okay with giving away that much of your income and personal property taxes? How about inheritance taxes, you are tolerant of those as well?
How about that Obama? Preaching hope and change and getting our boys home... I remember well his words that won him the presidency. He has yet to fulfill any such promises. In fact, we just keep getting involved in more wars and spending that much more of our money while some of our best and bravest are dying overseas. Are you content to let your tax money pay for that as well? |

To reiterate, since you keep taking it to mean something I did not say, my original quote was: "we're incapable of growing our own."
Do you disagree with that statement?
Because you're trying to nail me to the cross on a point you derived mistakenly from the above quote. |

I like living my life the way I want to, having freedom to do what I want, when I want, as much as I want (with in the boundaries of most laws). I would rather keep all my money, but I also like having roads to drive on that don't kill my car's alignment and enough military and civil defense of my homeland so i don't have to worry about my safety constantly and the corp of engineers and nasa and a whole bunch of other things that cost money to run and have.
I haven't thought up a better way to pay for it nor is it a high priority in my life, so, yeah I'm tolerant of taxes.

He wouldn't be the first politician to do that nor will he be the last.
I would prefer our soldiers not die any where, but that's a pipe dream.
I assume by "overseas" you are referring to the middle east. I think that problems there are way too complex for any quick and easy solution such as just up and leaving one day. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

If you mean we as a nation, and are referring to food in general and not a specific type, then yes, I disagree.
I think we have an inefficient distribution system. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong
