Hey googling's easier than searching about NWA for a bald headed, gray-skinned man smoking a cigar. Wink

I don't get on the internets at work yet. Most things are blocked. UO is not, but I haven't dared slack off yet.

I have this new feeling I'm not used to, which is being excited about my job. I almost, dare say, love my new job (so far). I'm at starbucks now..

Random thought of the day: How have we allowed the income tax to rape us for so long now? I don't mind other kinds of rape so much, but monetary rape is untolerable.

The only part I really hate about it is that we're taxed on our income (income tax), taxed when we buy stuff (sales tax), and then taxed on some stuff because we simply own it (property tax). It's a ridiculous system. How the hell can we ever expect an economy to thrive when we're triple taxed on some goods? Just seems wrong and should be illegal to be taxed that often on the same shit. Plus businesses are taxed in their income, too.

Tax is necessary, but not at its current level. I simply don't see how an economy can be sustained at this level.

I moved into a new place at the beginning of June and I'm lucky to get 5 or 6 hours of slow internet out a week. Combine that with everything being blocked at work and I am unfortunately going to be missing in action a while.

Hopefully they can increase the speed of my internet and if not then I plan on purchasing my own connection once I get my new spending budget hammered out.

Exactly. Why hasn't anyone done anything about this? Why the fuck are we so content to let this go on?

Still, we sit at home stuffing our faces with food whose ingredients we can even pronounce because we're incapable of growing our own, watching American Idol while the government pig grows fatter and fatter on our dime. Obama is actually pushing to RAISE the debt ceiling. What the hell is wrong with everyone?! Why is that even an option?! They can't live within their own means, even after bending us over for decades and sucking our money out of our pockets.

I really hope we get the right candidate in office this time...

Unless the economy turns around, our debt will continue to rise. I don't like that we have to, but we do need to raise the debt ceiling. It's a necessary evil.

Unfortunately, the politicians don't understand that tax breaks don't mean jobs. All it means is more profits going to business shareholders. Businesses aren't out to make sure the societies they service survive; they're only concerned with the profitability of their products. We need something to spur DEMAND, not tax breaks.

+1
Most nations don't have laws that prohibit raising the national debt ceiling. It has to be done or we’re tanked. And yes, fuck lavishing corporate tax breaks when the economy is floundering. Shareholders' bottom line at the expense of the citizenry in these times is an outrage. More regulation of trade, banking, and limitations on lobbying legislators are needed to reign in the corporations before they fuck things up worse.

Really? You think everyone in America should grow all their own food and raise and butcher all their their own meat? Are you insane? Do you realize how insanely impractical that would be?

In the overall scheme of things, Agrarian societies are poorer than Industrial or Post-Industrial societies. At an individual level, do you really think that you have enough time or space to grow/raise everything you eat? I hope you don't like tropical foods or saltwater seafood, good luck growing that in Mo.

Or were you about to tell me that you only eat at restaurants that support sustainable restaurants, never go to McDonalds or anything of the sort.

Sure I think it's a great idea for people to garden, and eat what they produce, but considering I have maybe 8 square feet of space in my apartment to grow plants in, if they want sunlight that is, I don't think sustainability will work for me, nor do I want to live way out in the suburbs to have that room. It's not very sustainable if I have the room to grow a lot of food but I have an hour drive 1 way to work every day.

Lemme ask you this, what did you eat and drink today?

Really? You're really going to complain about how people spend there own free time? Personally I think if people like watching AI they should be allowed to. Or if they'd prefer to watch MTV (which I can stand any of their shows), they can. Or if they like to explore rust bldgs, they can.

First off your statement makes it sound like one entity is getting all the money from these taxes, which isn't true. Income is federal & state, sales & property are state & local.

Half the nation's income comes from income tax. Almost all of the states get most of their income from property & sales taxes.

If all these entities are lowering taxes where are they getting there money from? Or do you have some specific programs that you'd like to see them cut spending on?

So you're saying you want to be taxed once for things. That would mean either the federal government taxes you then splits that money up to give to the states or that the lowest level of government does all the taxing and pays fees or allocates funds for the rest of the nation. Both of which are extremely inefficient and goes against how our government was set up originally.

I suppose we could leave spending totally up to the people. Every year, instead of filling out your income taxes for the past year, we could fill out a form for the coming year detailing how much we want taken out and what plans at a local, state, and federal level we want that money spent on. But considering the multitude of things that money goes to, that would be a real pain in the ass. Plus how many people would say, "FU government I'm not giving anything," then complain about the lack of services and protection the government provides them?

Well that was a lot of straw man arguments and slippery slope presumptions from you. But let me get to the point:

The point I was making is we simply can't be taxed that much, on that many levels, and expect our economy survive. Yes, I'm well aware that those taxes go to different things; I'm also aware that some states don't even have property taxes. So why do we?

I'd much rather be taxed once by the federal government (income) and then again on sales tax. Hell, tax me even higher for sales of luxury goods; I don't mind that. But for OWNING something? That's ridiculous. That's just greed. If I have a car that I don't even use, why the fuck should I be taxed on it? For simply having it sit in my garage? Ridiculous.

And, yeah, there are several programs I'd cut the fuck out of the federal budget, starting with international aid. When we can't even pay our own fucking bills, we shouldn't be giving billions to Africa. Did you know 1/3 of all foreign aid goes to Israel and Egypt? Israel is a pretty developed nation, for fuck's sake. Why the fuck are they getting aid? Get your own god damn money. There are ways to be partners other than giving you my paycheck.

Cut off stupid fucking aid to countries in Africa and the Middle East. All it does is to towards terrorism, whether it's the African tribes or Middle Eastern terrorist organizations.

I'm not saying we should become xenophobes; rather, I'm saying there are things we can do that don't involve giving out money we don't have. When we can't even feed every member of our own nation, we shouldn't be concerning ourselves with feeding members of other nations. All we're doing is progressing those nations far enough so that our businesses can take advantage of their poor workforce and take our jobs elsewhere.

And goddammit, stop letting people into this country for no good reason. Why the hell are there foreign convenience store workers? Did the American job market for people willing to work at a convenience store disappear? Americans can't find jobs; why the hell can foreigners?

Again, not being xenophobic; just arguing that we need to take care of AMERICA first before other countries and their people.

Yes yes, I'm obviously the only one in this debate making presumptions or generalizations for that matter. I'm sure the vast majority of convenience store workers are foreign, non-citizens. Rolling Eyes

Since your all about taxes, here's a good listing of what states have what taxes.

You do know that foreign aid accounts for just less than 1% of the nation's total budget right?

I find it funny that it's always the other guy that's greedy. Never the person that does the complaining even though they are arguing about keeping more money to themselves. Sure sure, it's those rich CEOs that try to get all those tax breaks, never mind the rest of us that comb through our tax booklets every April looking for as many deductions as we can find. I agree with Sub, people & companies should live within there means and avoid credit as much as possible, but don't tell me your any less greedy than any one else.
