Columbia, MO

Post by Mr.C.L.Dodgson »

Hey, guys. This is the new kid, Mr. Dodgson. So, I came up to Columbia for college a few weeks ago and there's tons of old buildings up here just begging to be explored. I was wondering if anybody has been through them, or if I should go ahead and do my own digging around.

The answers to your questions:

Most likely.

and yes.

Just because someone's been through it before doesn't mean you shouldn't experience it for yourself. Your perspective might be much different than someone else's.

Don't have to tell me twice.

Just got back to MU after the holiday weekend yesterday, and ended up in the attic of Jesse Hall that afternoon. The fourth floor was hard enough to get to, even though it's public access. The only stairwell was hidden in a far corner. From there, I just started looking at rooms, and worked my way into one that looked promising. It was empty but for the dust. It had a open doorway on the other side that lead down a cluttered passage that ended in a cage doorway. The doorway was right in the area where the two eves meet, when looking from the outside. It took a little more finagling to get through this doorway than the first one. Once through that, it opened into a pretty big loft-type area lit by two round windows on either side. Sorry about the quality. It doesn't really give you a sense of how big it is, but I had to use my cellphone.

The floor was dusty as hell, obviously, but the coolest part was under the floorboards. There were literally thousands of bullet shells. I did a bit of asking around, and found out that it used to be a firing range back in the 20’s for the Boys’ and Girls’ Rifle Association (now part of ROTC, I believe.) Point of interest, one of the world’s top five rarest guns was found up there. It was an old Springfield Gallery rifle they converted from a .22 to a .32.

Rather be a n00b than an old man, brouser. And do me a favor, will you? Next time you attempt to insult, at least spell it right.

Here's a link to the pics.

We generally consider it to be pretty poor form to begin a sentence with a conjunction...
