http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/15/health/oxford-comma-maine-court-case-trnd/index.html

Oxford commas are for idiots who don't understand the meaning of words in sentences. If you like oxford commas then you are the worst type of person.

Take this REALLY DUMB situation:

Quote:
This is what the law says about activities that do NOT merit overtime pay. Pay attention to the first sentence:

The canning, processing, preserving, freezing, drying, marketing, storing, packing for shipment or distribution of:

Agricultural produce;
Meat and fish product; and
Perishable foods

The problem here is NOT the lack of oxford comma. The problem here is the unnecessary description of the task of packing.

"Packing for shipment or distribution" would be the same type of packing. Shipment IS distribution. At best, shipment is a prerequisite for distribution and the packing would be the same. Therefore only a terrible, disgusting, human being would interpret the phrase to mean "packing for shipment or distribution" as if there would be a difference in packing.

If they had simply left off the "for shipment" part, the meaning would be OBVIOUS and NO OXFORD COMMA NEEDED. It would read thusly: "packing or distribution of.."

Some namby pamby idiots decided to argue about the comma or lack thereof while the real problem with the grammar completely escaped them.

DEATH TO THE OXFORD COMMA. DEATH TO ITS SUPPORTERS. DEATH TO YOU ESPECIALLY.

I always use the oxford comma. It's pretty dumb not to...

If you don't use a comma, you're implying that the last two words in the sequence are a single thing.

Q: Which one of these sentences is correct?

I like to eat semen and I love anal.
I like to eat semen, and I love anal.

I know the second one is correct, but I still catch myself eliminating the comma a lot of the time. I guess whether I use the comma depends on how complex the sentence is...
