What's a good movie to rent?

Post by redox »

I couldn't find a movie thred anywhere.

If you haven't seen "Appalossa" and like westerns, go rent it or Netflix it. I thought it was good. Released in '08, cirected by Ed Harris who plays the main character, and Viggo Mortensen co stars.

Requiem for a Dream. My friend played it for his last birthday party.

A Clockwork Orange, the most unique movie I have ever seen. Hands down, the best movie made by Stanley Kubrick, and an awesome ending too.

Best all time movie:

I dunno. Depends what you like. Here are some personal recommendations:

Amelie (this movie is absolutely beautiful, and also the closest to chick flick I get)
Battle Royale (Japanese school children killing each other... okay)
The House of Yes (it's fucked up)
The Life Aquatic (screw the reviews, it was good)
Pumpkin (Christina Ricci is a sorority girl who falls in love with a retarded boy... what?)
Legend (soundtrack by Tangerine Dream... which explains why the sound the unicorns make sounds like whales dying)
Let the Right One In (this was a completely screwed up vampire movie, but not in the sense that you're used to. mostly it's beautifully shot, twisted, and it works)
Being John Malkovich
Pan's Labyrinth
Lost in Translation

I have more, of course, but I figure that's more than enough to throw out there. And, for those who hate subtitles, Amelie, Battle Royale, Let the Right One In, and Pan's Labyrinth are all subtitled. But that's your loss.

I still prefer to illegally download them rather than rent. Unless you are completely dumb and don't have a DIVX compatible DVD player.

I recorded all seasons of South Park, Star Trek DS9, Enterprise, Voyager, TNG, and TOS. All I have to do to watch what I want is put in the proper disc. You know you can store SEVERAL episodes of your favorite program on a CD-R. Usually about 3-5 hour long episodes depending on quality.

And DIVX has the best quality per megabyte. A whole movie can fit on a single disc and still look good.

(this should be obvious to most of you, but educating those that dont know about this cool thing called DIVX)
