Bartlesville: MKT Railroad Tower/ Petroleum Warehouse

Post by psychosaw13 »

in Bartlesville's "westside" there is an abandoned Railroad Tower. I'm guessing it used to be a water tower or Grain elevator.
There is Warehouse directly across from it that was used for storing oil & gas & petroleum products.

I will let the pics do the talking!

Awesome place, love the pics! After seeing that tower up close, I must now climb it. Bet it's a good view up there. Nice action shot of the cat lol. Wonder what that old building with the large tanks was for. Storing oil? Pumping it out of the ground? Both? Or just a gas station with above ground tanks?

Seriously, why does everyone feel the need to post dead cat pics on here?

I didn't know anyone else had, I just thought it was kind neat.
Plus it was a kinda subliminal "Curiousity killed that Cat" thought.

Sorry if I offended you..... I'm still a noob!

Hi All,

Psychosaw has found a cool example of a steam locomotive coaling tower. The early ones were built of wood, but as time went on most railroads began replacing them with concrete towers. As you can see they've lasted longer than the steam locos. :(

Cheers,

Thanx! I did all the research I could but still couldnt find out exactly what it was. it makes much more sense that the chute in front would spill out coal.

Cool pics Psycho. I didn't see this one when you originally posted it. I've been walking down an abandoned rail line and will have to snap some pics of some of the stuff that's on it-before the town of Iola bulldozes it. It is owned by some local folks but the same town that bulldozed the old depot wants to condemn it.

I used to work for the KATY.

Those little buildings aren't really "offices" as much as just shelters for guys who manned the equipment and maybe did the initial bookkeeping. The real offices were elsewhere.

No shit? Thats. I'm currently doing some research around an old KATY bridge here in Tulsa. Railroads have so much history...
