These were found last weekend at a place SubLunar knows of.

Nice. We've got to be getting close to the end of the season, but I'm going to look this weekend anyway. This rain we're getting should bring some out if they are still going to come up.

went out to my favorite place last week, and only found one dried up morel that someone had picked and dropped. Very depressing. Next year, I am getting an army together and going to some new places.
We are all just sloguns waiting to have our triggers pulled.

As for us, we weren't so lucky.

That's a ton of 'em! How long can they be stored out in open air before decaying?

No one will ever find out. They're too delicious. But step one after finding morels is to soak them overnight in the fridge in salt water to kill the bugs out of them. I'm not sure how long they would store that way. Some people don't even soak them, though. Here's a pretty good article: http://articles.petoskeynews.com/2012-0 ... l_31673287

I've soaked mine for a couple of days before...but not really any longer. I hear you can batter them and freeze them. Then thaw and fry.

New fungus I recently consumed: bearded tooth, aka lion's mane, aka a bunch of other names. Pretty good stuff. Sauteed in butter with a touch of garlic, similar to scallops but I like it a little better than scallops. Good fungus hunting in SWMO right now after the rain we've had.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

It's been a rough year searching with the cold Spring.
