Lol I was just gonna post it too!

The full maps are on there in slightly crummy quality: http://static.ktul.com/files/mines2.pdf

Someone should go find the shafts and uh... not die. Also the Fark comment thread is interesting.

There are mine tunnels all over the state. Oklahoma has a high water table, so anything you find will likely be flooded. Heneryetta Oklahoma has tunnels under downtown. Some of the buildings shift when it rains.

And here's the link for the video if anyone wants to download it. Have to have the right player to play it, though:

I'd be willing to go look for these if I had any idea how to go about finding entrances. But that's a pretty big area to be searching.

If you look closely at the maps on that site, you can see where it mentions air shafts and entrance shafts. Not sure what those would look like now, possibly covered and paved over, possibly filled in and paved over.

You could also try to get an original of the map from the city, tell them you or your internet-incompetent relative is a property owner and is concerned about ground collapse.

It's such a big area on their Abandoned Mines Map.

I've been looking at Sanborns of that area since I saw this thead, but it seems like by the time the Sanborn maps moved that far east into town that the mines were gone or something. Either that or I'm just not looking at the right page for where the entrances were.

Weird, they are not marked on the USGS maps...

If you can come up with a mine name or who operated it, i can probably find an entrance

Modern USGS maps tend to leave out mines and caves, they used to put them on back in the day but now the government hates telling people where cool stuff is. If you can find a map archive or government depository library (university, local goeological survey, etc), they may have historic topo maps viewable by the public. 1940s-now in 1:24000 scale are the most detailed, earlier than that and you'll have to hope they have a decent 1:63000 collection as well. It's not gauranteed that the old ones will show every adit and shaft in a given area, but they're way better than the ones from the 80s and up.

Hey braintech, have you seen these entrances? Or did you read about them? If you have been to them, pm me with some more details on how to find them. I plan on going out there next weekend.
