Which version looks best: Original, desaturated sky, or high-contrast B&W?

The original looks the best but it's boring. The desaturated one is a little less boring because it looks ominous. The b&w one went from boring to even more boring. I'd choose the desaturated sky one

That was a fun day... LOL

I'd go with the original.

As much as I would love a new lens because mine is literally falling apart, I feel like the Cannon kit 18-55 is actually pretty solid. If anything I'd just get a cheap wider angle non-fisheye lens. I'd never bring an expensive lens with me and the quality of cheap lenses is solid enough

That's what I'm shooting with on my T5i. Not sure what I should get for my next lens. Wider angle would be nice, but I'd also like something that's just better in lower light.

For me the main thing is auto focus. Any lens with with good low light ability/focusing and silent focusing like the kit STM will be pretty expensive. You can get great general photography lenses for cheap but video lenses are so much more expensive unless you go with a manual lens. It's pretty easy to use an all manual ultra-wide lens but still, I like my auto focus/aperture lenses since I'm a pretty fast paced explorer.

What I've learned is that lenses that will be any better at low light are significantly higher price. And the improvement you will get with low light will not, IMO, justify the much higher price. So I went with a tripod. Tripods suck, but they're cheaper than a new lens and I get my shots that way.

I think you need one where you up the blue bandwidth to make the place feel more stark and colder, except in the sky I'd dull that down to about half way between original and desaturated.

Even though the metal fence is cold feeling, the amount of red in the brick and the green-ness of the grass makes the photo feel warmer and more inviting.

You might also play with the light/mid/shadow to make the shadows darker.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I got to spend June in Europe on a business trip that felt way more like vacation than work. Specifically I spent 2 1/2 weeks in Prague, Czech Republic and 1 week in London, England. Fucking awesome.

This pic is of the Prague Astronomical Clock, the 3rd oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still working.
