Crater Of Diamonds

Post by gimpface »

My Old Lady and myself will be spending this weekend down there trying to strike it rich. Is there anything worth exploring in the vicinity?

I've always wanted to go dig in the dirt there.

Yeah, it looks like it will be awesome. We'll be down there for four days digging in the dirt!

I've heard that the most successful digs there are from people who look near the drainage ditches. Rain runoff/water flow causes some nice stones to get flushed into those ditches. I heard that works better than just aimlessly digging in the mounds all over the place.

Good luck, that place can be fun.

Diamond mining was hard work, best reserved for impoverished African child soldiers. We had a lot more fun collecting quartz in an abandoned mine. It was fun, though.

I want to say there is or used to be a commercial diamond mining operation at the below coordinates. I remember riding up on it oneday with my four-wheeler with some friends. A 10 foot razor wire fence in the middle of the woods and dirt roads will stick with you. I know now they have gates on a majority part of the main access roads, but if your lucky, a gate will be open or there is always other ways into the areas if you just keep looking for trails/roads.

I used to live not far from this area, if I ever get a chance to try out my 4wd again i'll go check it out sometime when I'm visiting my relatives.

If I even get down that way again I will have to check that out. Also, I didn't realize I'd be near Caddo Gap (drove through it to find the Quartz mine), I wish I'd had access to the net, I would have checked out this thing. Oh, well- next time, I guess.

I know exactly where it is at. I grew up about 10 miles from there. There are two ways to get there. Either turn and go through Hopper or take the back roads through Albert Pike.
