Just wondering if folks still wander around in Washington University's subterranian network.
I made a few ventures in during my undergrad years (mid 1990s). No photos, alas -- it never even occurred to me. _________________ www.BuiltStLouis.net |

I just happened to be looking at some blueprints for a Wash-U building and flipped to the basement pages only to see no less than three doors leaving the building represented on the print. Interesting. _________________ I have a 7.62x54R problem. |

| I know this thread is rather old but I am a current student at Wash U and I have been poking around trying to find any old steam tunnels that still exist. Does anyone still have blueprints, maps, or directions to entrances to these tunnels? |

If you have access to some of the buildings, just go to the basement and snoop around. You're likely to find something that way.

| I have looked through a lot of basements and have not found many promising entrances. In many cases it seems as though entrances have been hidden behind now locked furnace rooms which have magnetic locks on the doors making them more or less impossible to get into without a swipe card. |

Heh. Some undergrad students just got busted by WUPD down there. Some lines (40 maybe?) have cameras. That being said, if you don't go there and they don't catch you, they're going to have a hard time id'ing you. |

Here's how we got in one part of the system. It was so long ago, I don't remember which building it was in. The tunnels are fairly limited in extent, and the entire system is not contiguous. I was a little disappointed, but still glad I got to see them. The system may be much bigger than I know however. I pussed out on going down one tunnel because it was a bit flooded and there were extension cords in the water. The guys I was with were looking at me like I was the biggest douchebag in the world. Electricity scares me though.

Me, you, The Moor, my friend, and it seems like maybe machinist or someone else stumbled upon it. |
