i think this post holds the record for the most versions of how to spell orphan! :)
We aims to please! BTW, I belong to the local Odd Fellows lodge here in Springfield Missouri and we just recently put all four of our photos of the Liberty, Mo. Odd Fellows Home back up on our lodge walls.

And if anyone thinks they might be interested in joining, give me a PM.

My Dad's an Oddfellow. Still belongs to the Hillsboro, Texas Lodge-although now I think it's in some nearby town as I think they consolidated or some such.

I'm an odd fellow too, though it doesn't really have anything to do with an organization.
:)
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I live in Joplin and I drove by the old Freeman Hospital building a couple of days ago...I don't see that their doing anything at the present time to it...ie. creating apt's.
It still looks like the creepy semi-abandoned building that its always been.
I think that part of it is still being used...for what I don't know...could probably find out though.
As for getting into it????????
It looks like its sealed up pretty tight...ie, no broken windows, doors...etc!
I would be cool to explore...the top floor...as was the case with most older hospital's...was used as the surgery ward if I'm correct...you can still see some of the equipment attached to the ceiling of the upper floor because it has big windows with not alot of curtins....
I'll check it out closer if you want!
I DIDN'T SAY THAT YOU SAID THAT I SAID THAT......

Do not enter this building. The people who own it live there. PM me if you would like to know more about this building. Details I cannot discuss openly.

I know of one asylum that was empty, but it got turned into apartments in Normandy. There is also an abandoned Hospital in Normandy too. I went with some friends there about a year ago and took some pictures....but those got lost in the great hard drive crash of 2007. And There was some crazy stuff in the hospital too.

I think that link is just generic and takes you to the middle of Florissant.

According to the entry, this should be the area to check out, McLaren @ Jennings Station. (hopefully this link works.)
