Pickwick Hotel/abandoned radio station

Post by peterbillionaire »

The old radio station was on top of the hotel, in a penthouse. The penthouse was set back so that it is invisible from the street. One shot below shows a wooden turntable in the floor in the old bus depot. The white room is one of the radio station studios.

Is the whole thing abandoned or just the penthouse?

I'm going to take a guess at the whole thing being abandoned... which would be awsome to explore!

I wish! The former hotel is now low-income housing; the old bus depot is 95% unused. The office building and storefronts are unused, but I did not get to see that part.

I can't figure out what the turntable was for. If it was used to turn around busses (if so, they must have been small), why didn't it have grease or oil spots on it? There was no machinery below it, so I guess that it was turned by hand, like the cable-car turntables in San Francisco.

Found this url too when looking for info on the place as well. Looks like it has some great history, hopefully it doesn't get torn down for being a defunct building that no one is interested in.

Great find, The10ck --- thanks. I love the double deck bus. The driver sat in the front of the upper level.
