Enright Middle School

Post by memory_machine »

Tonight my buddy and I visited the abandoned Enright Middle School, one of the many amazing schools designed by architect William B. Ittner from 1897-1915. I was immediately taken aback by how massive this building is: four stories high and stretching at least the length of a city block.

It took us a couple hours to explore the entire building. We had to move slow on the upper floors because the windows were not boarded up, and we didn't want to use too much light. There is so much that has been left behind: papers, books, machinery, even music sheets in the band room. The one thing we didn't find were any kind of classroom furniture. I don't know if it's been sold or reused somewhere else, but it's nowhere to be found. We found it interesting how many "gyms" there were. There was one on the first floor and two slightly smaller gyms on the fourth floor. Those were some in shape kids, I'd be willing to venture.

Wow, that's impressive that they covered all four of the women's styles that could be found in that time frame!

I don' t know why the shower picture was posted twice, but I can't fix it. In case you're wondering, yes, it was the same spot! Thanks!

Well, that was my favorite room. But only because I'm a fan of cleanliness, not small, naked, showering boys.

I'm not falling for that one, that's the same Micheal Jackson said.

No, the school was abandoned in 1994. We found a message on one of the chalk boards from around the time the school closed. I thought that was kind of cool.

They were cleaning the place up as of a year or two ago. The gym on the second floor was covered entirely in plastic and they had asbestos wash rooms in the stairwells. Although we did have fun on a scaffolding and pushing someone around on it. Chris? Casey?

hehe I even found some pics from when we went with the plastic gym, washrooms, and the equipment they had there at the time. And I can tell you I still had long hair so these are about 2 years old, god knows what this place looks like now.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't done by now, but haven't been near it recently.
