New Forum phpBB Version

Post by mindwaave »

The forum lives!

1) I humbly request the original forum style template be recreated! Eventually.
2) Is there a chance we could eventually get an SSL certificate to enable secure-posting over HTTPS?
3) Registration of the forum on Google's Search Console would be nice, so we can control their public malware alerts.
4) I'd donate toward hosting new photo upload storage/bulk content-replacement features. Getting my photos off Flickr and being able to re-embed in all my posts would be amazingly useful.
5) Can anything be done to restrict/captcha new-user creation, or otherwise mitigate vulnerability to new/smarter bots?

This has prevented 2020 from being even worse, thanks WhiteRabbit :) 🎄

I'm not hip to the inner workings of the web. What's with this "bot" user?

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

“My dear fellow, who will let you?”
“That’s not the point. The point is, who will stop me?”

Such new indexer bots might have inadvertently helped more eastern European spammers to find us, than local explorers...

It really might have something to do with the site getting reindexed. We had the same issues when I updated KCUE to the latest phpBB version. In fact, we had an attack at the beginning that lasted for like 3 days straight. Hundreds of attempts to create accounts and post. After I enabled an anti-spam plugin, they gave up after the 3rd day lol. The last spammer that actually got through was back in October last year; but that was an actual person who beat the captcha and answered the forum verification question correctly.
