Old MoPac Railroad tunnel southeast of Reed's Spring

Post by Willard »

I was looking at the old MoPac railroad line that goes through Reed's Spring Missouri and noticed a tunnel on the map just southeast of the town. It's still used by (either Union Pacific or Burlington Norther/Santa Fe) the railroad but it's called the Reed's Spring Tunnel by which ever railroad now uses the line.

This is the tunnel section of the midwestplaces website and it had quite a few of them but I encourage you to click on the different bridge types as well. It's a cool site.

Oh yeah, man, people down there have been playing in that tunnel for years. It's pretty old, too, and the community used to use it as a hangout of sorts. I've got an old picture in Stone County history book that shows people having a gathering at the entrance.
