I wonder - was anyone else here (besides OF moi) ever on the Inaugural, pre-flood? It was darned interesting, particularly to someone who was in the Army and not the Navy.
BUT - I sure hope none of the men who served on her ever see any of these photos. The flooding itself had to be so sad back in 1993.
While she entered the War late, in March of 1945, she helped around Okinawa clearing mines and shooting at kamikazes. She later cleared mines around Japanese harbors.

I've emailed that guy too, about stuuff.
I'm trying to find blueprints for the AM class of ships (of which the Inaugural is) to get a sense of it's size and what rooms lead to where.
You all may be interested in knowing that at least a third of the ship (the back part) is always underwater or buried in sediment. In the pic, the rear gun emplacement is really only visible now that the water is so low, usually it's underwater too.
I found this plan for a camo pattern that shows good detail of the side of the ship that is facing up.

One of my first times to see the ship, I climbed into the outfall that's there and got covered in mucky crap. After getting out, I talked to who I guess is the manager or some higher up of the gravel mill that sits there. As he was hosing me off, he told me that every now and then some past crew member will come by wanting to see the ship, and they have no qualms with that. In fact, they don't care if people like us come to see it, as long as we don't mess with their trucks and stuff.

Yes, I'm aware of the site. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, when I visited her back in 1968, I found the name of crew member with whom I was then working at American Can.
When the Inaugural web site came up (forget when), I sent the link to him - he was in the final throes of cancer then, but was quite grateful.
The only other Admirable class minesweeper to survive is the Hazard, which is a dry land (!) display in - Omaha!

Great pics and updates! I was out there a couple weeks ago and was wondering - has anyone been in the tunnel facing the USS Inaugural? It looks like a tight squeeze but curious where it ends up...
