James River flooding at the Y Bridge - Galena
James River flooding at the Y Bridge - Galena
Ok, so I went and took some pics of the James River over by the "Y" Bridge in Galena this afternoon. According to the flood gage the flood is pretty much peaking there nowish.
Y Bridge flood gage data (Edit: I'm pretty sure the USGS is continueing to refresh the data on this graph)
Looking at the flood gage
Base of the Y Bridge
Looking upstream from the Y Bridge to the current bridge
Y Bridge from river access road
The Y Bridge River Access... on a island or a pennisula?
Pennisula - took some hiking to get down there though

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Another foot or 2 and the bathrooms going to be wet
Under the current bridge looking upstream (prolly right below where WR stopped to take his photos)
Other side of the river from where I was before, this looked kinda like a park from that side, but it's a campground..
View of the campground from the other side, I couldn't get a photo of it but there's a lit Coke-a-cola machine stand next to the building

Finally, my favorite low water crossing next to Railey's Creek didn't disappoint...

Nice pics... I've been floating there before, but the river was down and we were too stupid to paddle properly so it took us forever.
Bet it would have been fun today...

Oh so I got the pics I took today for the higher river stage loaded up. I took a bunch, cause I'm a weird water fanatic like that, but I'm only going to post the ones that you can see a difference in.
Pic of the river access area and Y bridge, can see the depth difference from yesterday on the sign.
Lotta junk stuck to the bridge now
Didn't I mention that only another foot or two of water would flood that restroom at the access...
In fact the pennisula yesterday is an island today.
I'm sure the road I was standing on yesterday is only a foot under the water, but I really don't wanna get my feet wet.

The year we moved to Galena the flood water reached the road deck of the Y-bridge.

Nice, when was that?
And did you get hit by the tornado that went through highlandville?

No, to tell a funny story I did not even know about the tornado until 2 days ago. I guess it was a few miles North of my old place.

Got your camera out? The river rose 10 feet last night.

Re: James River flooding at the Y Bridge - Galena
we visited Big John's on the Niangua yesterday. Wish I'd had my camera, the bridge wasn't even visible. Never seen the river up so far there. - the water reading at Windyville said the Niangua was only up 5 feet, but Big John's was way over that.
Heard the Gasconade rose 14 feet.

I went and looked at the James today out by Rivercut. After two days, it's still rolling pretty good.
