Missouri Mines State Historic Site
Missouri Mines State Historic Site
Visited the state historic site in Park Hills, MO last week and decided to go behind the ropes, so to speak.
Unfortunately, they decided that I should be asked to leave, but they didn't take my pictures...

More photos.
It's one hell of a place to visit, especially the roped off areas.
Cheers!

Wow those are really good.
What's the point of making a point if the point you are trying to make is pointless? Do you get my point?
Re: Missouri Mines State Historic Site
That place is incredible. I was there a year or two ago, but didn't venture past the ropes.
It looks like you made it through most of the place before they caught you...how did you end up getting spotted?
Did you make it inside the headframe structure? Did you see the shaft itself?
I posted some pics here a long time ago of a concrete structure out in the middle of the woods there.

You know, it was really easy to just step over the ropes and walk around behind the scenes. I spent over an hour poking around until an employee of the site saw me in the repair shop looking at some of the old drills/machinery. He said I was in an area not open to visitors and asked me to leave--all in all a pretty fair and decent request. So I did. They have some maintenance folks in the back, so watch out.
Course, by then I had seen pretty much everything, but christ, you could spend 4 weeks and not see everything there. The most remarkable aspect was that everything seemed like it had merely been turned off and walked away from. There were gloves just laying next to machinery, lead concentrate and ore still in the crushers, the scale still worked.
This was definitely one of my favorite places i've ever seen and so easy to get into.
Regarding the shaft--i did go into the headframe. That's where all the crusher photos were taken, but apparently the shaft is plugged. The museum said there were over 1000 miles of underground workings in the area!
go see it.

That place is friggin amazing. I really want to go. So apparently, if you're really careful, you can see most of the place that's "off limits." Would that be accurate?
You know you wanna look:

RE: Missouri Mines State Historic Site
i was acctually going to post on this but the only problem was they were all on my cell phone and i sold my phone before ever posting them here or on my site. But yes This place is huge in one of the buildings there was rotting metal or steel staircases with mising steps. This Place also had plenty of things to take pictures of. I would Definitly recomend this as a UE Place

Anyone been out here recently? Is it more secure now?
RE: Missouri Mines State Historic Site
This has been on my to do list for like ever. It's managed as a park now so you'd want to go when there isn't going to be people there.
Re: Missouri Mines State Historic Site
This is the first I've heard of this place, and it looks beautiful. I called to ask about when there would be the fewest people there, then realized they closed 15 minutes ago, according to their hours:
That off season looks promising, but the vegetation might actually be nice to see while it's still around.Summer Hours (On-Season)
April through November
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday
12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday
Winter Hours (Off-Season)
December through March
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday
12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday
Preservation over plunder.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I'm certainly down for going. Just need to figure out a time and date. I can't imagine what this place would look like after a snowfall.

Near the main mill/museum complex, they're building some small structure below the Slime Pond dam, near the No. 7 shaft and flotation plant foundations (follow the rail line until you hit the creek, then walk northeast down the embankment and you'll find a clearing full of foundations for Denver flotation cells and ceramic electrical insulators). It's right by the old powder shacks; there's about five acres of vegetation that got cleared. I'm pretty sure that we found one of the hoist control levers for the No. 7 shaft; I propped it up against the door of the office trailer to confuse the guys when they started their next shift There was a CAT D7 with TOPCON GPS survey gear just parked on the access road, as well as a dump truck and excavator. I climbed up onto the D7; there exists a photo of me sitting on it.
