| Anyone ever go there? There are a lot of old tunnels and stairs going to nowhere. Pretty cool. If you go West of the park, there is an old port on the Meremac River. |

No, but I can see how that can be confusing. The previous post was Wood-Smith Castle, not Castle Wood Park. _________________ You know you wanna look:

That "port" is really the barge at the end of the dissapointing "Zombie road". _________________ Can you here me now! its the end of radio, and we miss it. |

Yeah, that's "Zombie Road" alright. It's actually the remains of an old sand dredging operation and the road is actually called "Lawlor Ford Road" _________________ I have a 7.62x54R problem. |

Any idea what it may have been called?
Around the turn of the century, the Meramec river through what is now west county was a major tourist attraction for city dwellers during the summer time. _________________ I have a 7.62x54R problem. |

The site below has a pretty good history of the park:
Castlewood History
Also, the following link from the MO state site notes that the grand staircase is still there:

On edit....found the following pics of the grand staircase:

As far as the grand staircase goes the only part that is authentic is the stone part near the bottom of the staircase. The rest of the wooden part I believe was a boyscout project years ago. Castlewood is a cool place but as far as buildings and abandonments go there isn't much left. Near castlewood there is an old stone building and a couple other buildings that I have no idea what they used to be. Pretty sweet to stop and see though, but last time I was there we didn't take any pics.
