Sparks Sinkhole

Post by White Rabbit »

Ran across this info on a sinkhole called Sparks Sinkhole, located somewhere in the Springfield area. I don't know how long ago this happened, and it's probably been filled in by now, but you never know. Here are pictures of the area.

The website I got this information from (http://www.geocities.com/casting101/geotour.html) doesn't specify what city or what area the sinkhole is located in. It does say "this sink is located in the backyards of a suburban neighborhood" and that "one of these openings has collapsed, making it an official cave, not to mention a potential risk to children in the area."

However, I have a strong feeling this is located in Springfield, because on the original page it's located next to a few other Springfield items. Plus, I know that there's a Sparks Avenue in Springfield, which would make sense if it were just off that.

Anyone familiar enough with the area around Sparks Avenue to recognize if the pictures are taken there? If this thing isn't filled in, I'd love to get a look at it.

Yeah, I've been trying to get a little info on the sinkholes from that site, but I haven't had much luck. I snooped around on the Springfield Storm Water Services site and found this though. I'm assuming this is the same area? Either way, I'm glad our house isn't there, heh.
