Sweet target drone, I take it that was on a former air force range? Looks like the tail got shot up and the engine is missing. A military friend of mine used to scout those from the air and then hike in to check them out, he said they try to salvage them if possible but if the airframe is too damaged they just pull the engine and radio if it's still usable. He said for a while they were just putting radio control gear in old F-4 phantoms and using those as targets, and you can still find some pieces lying around certain areas.

it almost looks like it was shot out of something like a slingshot with those bars in the back

They would shoot these down until the government said it was getting to expensive. The solution was to tow a sleeve behind the plane and shoot at that. So the bars you see act like a trailer hitch for the sleeve.
Yes it was gutted by military personnel but otherwise the plane is in good shape.

Yeah that's a trip. I was in the military many years ago. Once on a field exercise in Oregon while hiking with one of my friends through an ancient conifer forest at a remote training camp near the coast. We found the wreckage of one of those on a hillside (or something very similar). We were later told that it was a radio controlled plane used during WW2 for a "secrete project".

Do you still have the OQ-19 plane. Looking for several in Lake Ontario.
