Speaking of floods.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banqiao_DamAs a result of this near stationary thunderstorm system, more than a year's worth of rain fell within 24 hours (new records were set, at 189.5 mm (7.46 inches) rainfall per hour and 1060 mm (41.73 inches) per day, exceeding the average annual precipitation of about 800 mm (31.5 inches))

"Hey, crazydrummerdude, I've been wanting to speak to you in private."
"Ok.."
"Have you ever thought about becoming a magician?"
"I mean, it seems fun, but I've never seriously considered it."
"Well, I think you have what it takes."
"Ok.."
"Here's the deal, to get started down the path, you need to show me a trick and then I'll show you a better trick. We can go from there."
So, tonight, I just taught myself my first magic (card) trick. It took a couple hours but now I can repeat it from memory. I just need to work on getting it more smooth.

I have so many questions...
First being was this conversation with a magician?

Maybe it was with his girlfriend. She's gonna make his penis disappear! Or maybe she'll put it in a little box and saw it in half. What a magic trick that'd be!Nicotti wrote:I have so many questions...

Re: Post Something Interesting
Well, if the person wasn't a magician the whole conversation could be a euphemism for butt sex, it could still be a euphemism even if the person is a magician.

Re: Post Something Interesting
The person is indeed a magician. Not a household name, but connected to some of the big wigs.
He surprised me today by requesting my slight-of-hand card tricks. I fumbled through them and totally screwed up. He showed me a couple good ones.
I was hoping to do this Wednesday to have more practice time, but whatever.

So one of my best friends works for Google and is on the Maps team. If you guys have any suggestions or have noticed any bugs, gimme some details and I can relay it to him.

Re: Post Something Interesting
My biggest complaint (with Google and Bing) is that you can't tell what year the imagery is from. They have different years all stitched together and it's hard to tell which is from when.mindwaave wrote:If you guys have any suggestions... I can relay it to him.
If they had an option that could be turned on & off that floated the year of the imagery over each tile that would be awesome. Especially for the "Rotate 90 degrees".
Maybe even the resolution of the imagery too with the year, but definitely the year.
I can only use lite, so if this is already in the regular mode let me know.

RE: Post Something Interesting
Actually, the year feature in Google Earth is one of my favorite features. Not only can I tell when the image is from, but I can easily go back to every year Google has an image from. I'm OK with features such as this and the rulers not being on the simpler Google Maps.
My primary use of Google Maps is in navigating. Research tools such as the year the photos are from is much less useful when I just want to know how to get from point A to Point B. I find it perfectly acceptable to have the more robust Google Earth separate where I can see everything I might care about from a research perspective.
When it comes to Google Earth, I really, really want to see more layers incorporated. It would be absolutely awesome if they could work with stitching together the various GIS maps to get some underground maps of sewer systems, cave systems, etc.. It would be absolutely awesome if they pulled topo map layers that just bundled with the default Google Earth software. It would be absolutely awesome if I could get information on the direction of flow of water in streams, parcel information linked to GIS systems, and overlays local governments put onto their own maps.
I don't really want these in Google Maps. In Google Maps, simpler is better, and speed is my number one concern, but in Google Earth I want all the bells and whistles.

Heard the police copter land and watched them roll it off the road this morning from my office window. Missed the actual landing and take off though. Did get some pics of the thing at lunchtime.
