Respirators?

What respirators do you guys use? If you don't use one, do you recommend any?

I bought a nice set at home depot once upon a time. With the removable filters. Might have worn them exploring once, then I used em while sanding a car down and left em outside on accident and the filters got ruined. Never bothered to get new ones. Haven't worn respirators since. Probably should, because I've been to some nasty fucking places where the mold was so thick I could feel my lungs burning as I breathed. Also been through tons of asbestos. So, I'm probably going to die from mesothelioma soon.

I have an inability to smell mold, so I don't bother wearing a respirator. I wouldn't be able to tell if there is mold about till I actually saw it. I'd have to wear the repirator constantly just to be safe and I find them super-annoying.

After literally tossing out clothes because of the amount of asbestos was caked on it, once, I think whatever damage it can do to my lungs, it has done.

You were with me for that time Sub, when we went thru that basement window and had to crawl around those pipes, right before finding the homeless guy's stuff and deciding to leave the way we came.

I honestly don't find a respirator necessary but for extreme cases (see my video showing the Jamestown mall theater). Asbestos and mold exposure for a few minutes isn't going to bother you unless you have asthma or some other condition. It's prolonged exposure that does damage. I would get a surgical mask style respirator rather than one with replaceable filters. That's total overkill and you're going to look like a douchebag. I mean we're exploring buildings, not prepping for chemical war.

I had one sort of like this. But the filters weren't that big. Maybe that's why I never used it again, because they changed filters and I couldn't get them anymore. http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Medium-Mo ... /202078789

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

A few places I've been to recently have had some insane mold, you just see it all over the walls, nasty.

I also think some people wear masks for a "cool" look. I honestly find them very annoying to wear and uncomfortable.

I'd just like to have one in my bag just in case I feel burning, or insane amounts of mold are visible.

Thanks again guys!

Saw this recently, if you're looking for some style and don't mind the price.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I'm rehabbing a house, so I'm surrounded by dust at least 1 full day a week, sometimes every day of the week. I just use one of the pink 3M respirators. Because I'm so used to it, it doesn't bother me to wear exploring.
