Visited a site overlooking the North Fork of the Illinois Bayou. Was told the site was used by bushwhackers after the Civil War.
Only had time to check out part of the area.

RE: Lookout Bluff and Bushwhackers hideout
The Sand Castle! That's in Richland Creek Wilderness and it's a great place to visit! There's a fairly easy way to get in there. One of the landowners on the north end has cut and maintained a illegal trail from their backyard to an old rock wall. The trail nearly peters out after that, but a few years ago you could barely make it out and follow it to within a few hundred yards of the formation. It allows you to avoid a whole lot of steep-ass climbing. The first time I found it was by bushwacking and all of a sudden there was a nice, recently mowed trail in the wilderness. I followed it back to their back yard and the next time I went I just parked down the road and cut through the yard. I'll see if I can find my gps co-ordinates and map and post them.
