The WTF Photo of the Day Thread
RE: The WTF Photo of the Day Thread
A while back I bought a macbook so as to familiarize myself with the OS. It has the same specs as my Lenovo but it seems to suck a lot more. Its only real use is as my internet computer.
Every time I get on the internet (I haven't bothered to change the homepage) I see this Ipad Air video advertisement in what appears to be a fairly typical Apple style: whitewashed everything, pastel everything else. Clearly, the Ipad Air is so amazing that any attempt to describe its features will leave you in a state of mouthbreathing and wide eyed staring off into space. The thumbnail preview perfectly captures this apple induced trance. It will reduce you to a state of vacuity so intense, your only reaction can possibly be described as "uuhhh derrrrrrp huuhhhh errrmagerrrrrd". Beware, Ipad Air users, that leaving your mouth gaping open like that may cause puddles of drool to form and unidentified foreign objects may enter the moist uninhabited cavity.
This is the face of uuhhh derrrrrrp huuhhhh Apple errrmagerrrrrd.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

RE: The WTF Photo of the Day Thread
The catacomb pics are pretty interesting.
The Catacombs started out as room-and-pillar limestone mines, pretty much the same as the ones in the Midwest, but dug by hand and with lower ceilings. After they built Paris on top and realized buildings were falling into holes, they filled in a lot of it and left behind narrow inspection tunnels snaking all through the system to check on the backfill.
When the cemeteries in Paris started overflowing, officials were like "oh hey here's some mine shafts, lets just dig everyone up and dump 'em down here". Thus you get these bigass bonepiles spilling out of shafts into the quarries below (Like this pic).
Most of the ossuary (burial) sections of the catacombs are like that, an unorganized jumble of bones. There's only one section that's organized into the neat bonewalls, and it's the tourist trap section.
In the heavily-trafficed quarries that are visited by the French equivalent of bros and party kids, most of the skulls have been trampled, stolen, smashed, turned into bongs, etc. So what's left is mostly a mix of tramped-down femurs and whatnot:
In some more hard-to-reach parts you still find bone shafts with stuff spilling out of them:
